Join us on Monday, August 31 at 9 a.m. for another virtual Art on Demand event brought to you by the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County in partnership with Alys Beach, 30a.com and Florida Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs.
In this episode, get to know the multi-talented Chris Alvarado while enjoying a behind the scenes tour of his custom built workshop and recording studio! In addition to being an award-winning singer/songwriter and recording artist, Chris is entirely self taught in the craft of Lutherie (guitar building). His incredible creations have a look and sound all their own.
The event will be viewable on 30A and Cultural Arts Alliance’s Facebook pages as well as available on our Art on Demand website page following the broadcast.
In 2016 and 2017, Chris was named as a finalist in the Nashville Music City Songwriting Competition. His song “This I Need You To Know” was a finalist in the 2014 American Songwriting Awards and a Semi-finalist in the Unsigned Only Music Competition that same year. In 2013, he was invited to perform at the 40th annual Telluride Bluegrass Music Festival in Colorado where he placed 3rd in the prestigious Telluride Troubadour Competition. He performed on NPR’s nationally broadcast program, “Radio Live” in 2014 and 2018, and receives regular airplay on NPR station WUWF.
Chris Alvarado isn’t just a singer/songwriter along the beaches of 30A, he also owns and operates Driftwood Guitars®, a boutique handcrafted acoustic guitar company. For the past four years Chris has designed and handcrafted the official 30A Songwriters Festival Commemorative Guitar. This annual guitar is auctioned off, with proceeds to benefit the Cultural Arts Alliance of Walton County. In 2017 Chris was commissioned by the GRAMMY Awards to build a guitar for presentation to Fleetwood Mac upon receiving the 2017 MusiCares Person of The Year award. In 2018 Driftwood Guitars was selected for inclusion in the Rolls Royce Motor Cars annual coffee table book, “Strive For Perfection.” This honor is only afforded to a few hand-select brands in the world. These brands represent the Rolls Royce tradition of handcrafted luxury goods, that reach the peak of craftsmanship, design, and quality. Well known clients of his guitars also include Brian Kelley of Florida Georgia Line. Driftwood Guitars can be seen on tour and television with the band, as well as in the FGL music video for their smash hit song “Simple.” In 2015 his instruments took 1st prize in Garden & Gun Magazine’s “Made In The South Awards” in the craft category. He has been building his one of a kind guitars for over 10 years and takes great pride in performing his original music on instruments of his own creation.
