Pastels are pure pigments combined with a binder to hold it’s shape and have been used to make art for many years. There have been debates for years as to whether work produced with pastels are considered drawings or paintings, however, they are accepted as paintings today. Monet, Degas, Mary Cassatt and many other famous artists are known for their work in ‘soft’ pastels.
Melody Bogle teaches painting with soft pastels. Join her as she explains how to use them and guides you through creating your own personal creations. She encourages working from your own photos or, at times, from a still life that is set up for those who would like to paint it. She often will do a demonstration to show how one begins a painting from determining the best composition to the use of pastels.
On your first visit or two pastels and pastel paper are provided for you to see if you would like to explore this media. Other supports and papers are available for a small charge. From Abstracts to Super Realism pastels can do it all. Your heart will skip a beat when you view the many exciting colors available in these ‘sticks’ of pastels!
