HARRIET NIX
The concept of Phoenix Isis initially came about in 1992 as a business decision. At the time, Harriet owned another company which provided works of art and color/design therapies for several large hospital systems in North Carolina. As satisfying as this work was, the longing to create art for its own sake just wouldn’t go away. Harriet had been painting since the age of 14. So, how do you separate profitability from the sheer joy of artistic experimentation? Split the business into two different companies and brands. Phoenix Isis was born.
With a rather robust education in the Fine Arts and a lifelong study of Egyptology, Harriet and her son moved to Florida in 1996.
Since that time, and currently, she works in at least four distinct styles and techniques. Harriet creates with all standard media, often mixing them together, when chemical properties do permit. Mixed Media is the freedom and complete abandonment of artistic norms that she relishes. The artist has no fear of any creative challenge. Unorthodox surfaces and unusual materials may also be incorporated into compositions, as are textures and the love of geometry.
