I am an Atlanta based mixed media artist, and my artistic journey has taken various twists and turns. I put my passion for creating on the back burner while attending law school and then while practicing law, but I continued to daydream of being an artist (and to fill legal notepads with doodles and artistic business ideas). When my daughter was born, I was inspired to leave the practice of law and create an original line of hand dyed children's clothing with hand-painted appliques. I later dabbled in painting wall murals, making jewelry, and creating event decor, but creating mixed media works on wood and canvas is my true passion.
After many years of art classes and workshops and also trial and error, I have developed a unique style of representing contrasting elements that is harmonious and balanced. My goal in my work is to create a sense of familiarity but also curiosity. I often combine opposites in my paintings, which suits my yin and yang idea of our existence here: our universe consists of opposite but inseparable and interconnected forces. I am intrigued by both the bold and the subtle, the perfect and the imperfect, and the realistic and the abstract. My technique includes original collage materials, acrylic markers and paint, ink, pastels, and pencil to create a sense of wholeness made from many parts. My style incudes both loose movement and more defined designs, such as botanicals, animals, human figures, and coastal landscapes inspired by my favorite beaches on 30A in the Florida panhandle. Many of my floral designs are taken from my own original floral arrangements or the greenery and blooms in my backyard.
I spent my formative years on Signal Mountain in Chattanooga, TN, and have created landscape pieces depicting the scenic mountains and the Tennessee river that runs through them. I attended college and law school at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and consider myself a Tar Heel for life. I currently live with my husband in Atlanta, GA and have a grown daughter bravely carving her path in New York City.
