Amber DeCicco
Hi! I’m Amber DeCicco (pronounced “De-Chico”, in case you were wondering). As an artist and creative at heart, I am inspired by the world around me. Having lived and traveled all over the world, I create work inspired by my experiences in those places. The textures, shapes, light and colors around me provide endless inspiration for my artwork. Currently, I create artwork from my little studio in the home I share with my husband and child, as well as from my spot on my beach towel at the ocean’s edge.
My artistic journey is all about embracing spontaneity. My watercolor paintings reflect a loose, fluid style that captures the essence of the places I’ve called home. Each of these pieces has a story, and often come together in sort of a magical way—watercolor painting is full of surprises and often cannot be repeated! These are a therapeutic outlet for me, I try to make a small painting a day, if only to de-stress.
My cyanotypes invite you into a world where artistry meets science, where every aspect is a dance of precision and creativity. Drawing from my background in photography and graphic design, I approach each piece with intention. The journey begins with the thoughtful creation of negatives, a crucial foundation for what is to come. The application of chemicals to paper requires a steady hand and an artistic touch to achieve the raw, organic edges that you see in my pieces. Each print is a unique embrace of elements; the sunlight, the time of day, and even playful breezes play a part in sculpting the final piece. This delightful imperfection tells a story, intertwining my artistic vision with the ever-changing environment around us—all adding depth and personality to my work. Through these cyanotypes, I express not only my artistic intent but also the beauty found in unpredictability.
Art, to me, is a playful journey where the process of creation is just as important as the final piece. I thrive on exploring new techniques and ideas, allowing my work to be both expressive and authentic. My hope is that through my art, viewers can pause, reflect, and appreciate the beauty that surrounds us, sharing pieces of experiences that resonate within.
