Hello, I’m Susan Julio—a fused glass artist and a recently retired art teacher. My journey in education began in 1984, and over the years, I have had the privilege of guiding countless students in their artistic endeavors. While it’s true that this makes me seasoned in age, it is my love for creativity that has kept my spirit youthful.
I have always lived by the sea, whether near the ocean or by the bay. The vibrant colors and the ever-changing moods of the water have fascinated me for as long as I can remember - I’m captivated by the translucent and transparent hues that define the ocean landscape. This lifelong admiration found its perfect outlet when I discovered the medium of fused glass.
Retirement from teaching was not an end but a beginning, allowing me to dive into my artistic practice with renewed passion. Fused glass gives me the opportunity to recreate the brilliant colors and forms of the marine life I cherish. In my studio, I hope to create art that reflects the beauty of the sea. Each piece is a celebration of the underwater world—an homage to the creatures and fluid shapes that inhabit it.
