- Rachel Herring | Cultural Arts Alliance
Spawned in 2010, Herring Design Co. was initially started for the creation of small print pieces, like invitations and stationery. Knowing she wanted to have a creative career, Rachel Herring took the leap of faith in 2012, leaving an office job to pursue Herring Design Co. full time. Rachel has been designing and creating for as long as she can remember. When she was little, she was never without a crayon or marker in her hand. Continuing through school, Rachel took all the art classes she could and created t-shirts and set designs for dances in high school. Knowing she wanted to major in a design field, Rachel graduated with a degree in Interior Design and another in Business Administration from Auburn University. While in school, she learned how to use Adobe Creative Suite, and it ignited a desire to do graphic design. Rachel moved to Birmingham for an internship and remained there after graduation. Still having a major interest in graphic design, she started Herring Design Co. to design custom invitations for people. The business grew by word of mouth, and so did the products she offered. Rachel has always loved working with her hands, so after a kitchen renovation, she had leftover wood that she knew couldn't go to waste. Her first string art creations were made from these pieces. Shortly after, she grew her tool collection, and set her mind to having a career as an artist. Business grew quickly after sharing these pieces, and in addition to art shows, she got her artwork into stores in the area. After seven years in Birmingham, AL, Rachel moved to Santa Rosa Beach, FL. The surroundings at the beach have influenced the subject matter of her artwork from the beautiful blues and greens from the Emerald Coast waters to the spectacular sunsets. My journey in education began in 1984, and over the years, I have had the privilege of guiding countless students in their artistic endeavors. While it’s true that this makes me seasoned in age, it is my love for creativity that has kept my spirit youthful. I have always lived by the sea, whether near the ocean or by the bay. The vibrant colors and the ever-changing moods of the water have fascinated me for as long as I can remember - I’m captivated by the translucent and transparent hues that define the ocean landscape. This lifelong admiration found its perfect outlet when I discovered the medium of fused glass. Retirement from teaching was not an end but a beginning, allowing me to dive into my artistic practice with renewed passion. Fused glass gives me the opportunity to recreate the brilliant colors and forms of the marine life I cherish. In my studio, I hope to create art that reflects the beauty of the sea. Each piece is a celebration of the underwater world—an homage to the creatures and fluid shapes that inhabit it.

- Susan Lucas
VIEW GALLERY ART Susan Lucas A full-time resident of Santa Rosa Beach, Florida since 1999, Susan is a native of Louisville, Kentucky and a graduate of Rhodes College in Memphis. She has lived and traveled in many places in this country and internationally, which enriched her art through different teachers, traditions, and experiences. She studied art at Virginia Intermont College, East Tennessee State University, and with inspiring workshop Instructors. She continues to attend a Master Class in California annually. Susan is a professional artist, known for paintings with a contemporary edge and sophisticated color. Her work is in the tradition of the post-impressionists, with their interest in color and a semi-abstract landscape. Each work is inspired by experience or memory and seeks to condense and give visual form to the experience of place. Acrylic paints on canvas are her primary medium. The paint is applied in many layers to create rich color and a surface enriched with subtle changes of textures, lines, and values. Details emerge and are submerged. Each work is a dance between abstraction and representation, complexity and simplicity, the two-dimensional surface and the three-dimensional subject. Susan’s paintings are in galleries, homes, corporate, and university collections nationwide. She has exhibited and won awards in numerous regional and national shows. She is recognized as a significant regional artist, nationally as “one to watch,” and was the Beaches of South Walton Artist of the Year (2004). Her work has recently been featured in the books, Studio Visit (Volume 41, 2018) and The Best of Acrylic Painting (Acrylic Works 2019); in Southwest Art Magazine (Jurors Choice, January 2018 and February 2020). In addition to creating art, Susan serves as an art coach, acts as an arts advocate in the community, and juries art shows. Her work is represented by Leigh Truett Consulting, St. Simons Island GA; 1514 Home/In Design Interiors, Pensacola; Pinckney Simons Gallery. Beaufort, SC; Anne Hunter Galleries, Seaside FL and SoHo NYC; and at her studio/gallery (by appointment). https://susanlucasart.com

- Gayle Campbell
VIEW GALLERY ART Gayle Campbell Florida native Gayle Campbell was initially drawn to bead weaving and bead embroidery by the intricacy and beauty of the completed jewelry. Her original designs have won multiple awards and she was featured in Emerald Coast Magazine as one of “7 Emerald Coast Artists You Need to Know”. These one-of-a-kind creations, where each individual bead is picked up by a super fine needle and woven into a tapestry of dimension and color, are often mistaken for cloth. The tiny glass beads require the use of magnification to accomplish the weaving process. An individual statement piece can encompass hundreds of painstaking hours. When asked, “Did you make the beads?” you may hear her respond, “My beads are my paint and my needles, my brushes. Do you ask a painter if they made their paint?” You are encouraged to handle her works and try them on. It isn’t often you have the opportunity to “Wear Art”. https://gaylesoriginals.com/
