  • BEIZAR ARADINI | CAA Walton County FL

< Back To Artists Page BEIZAR ARADINI Nashville, TN BIO Beizar Aradini was born in Mardin, Kurdistan and immigrated with her family to Nashville, Tennessee in 1992. Her work unravels her family’s story as immigrants and examines cultural displacement through craft and fiber arts. Aradini's artwork has been exhibited nationally, including at the Frist Art Museum as part of the award-winning We Count: First-Time Voters exhibition. In 2021, she was awarded Best in Show in the Best of Tennessee Craft 2021 Biennial at the Tennessee State Museum. Aradini was also selected for an artist residency at Arquetopia International Artist Residency and completed an Andean Textile and Weaving workshop during her month-long stay in Urubamba, Peru, which was partially funded by a scholarship from Tennessee Craft. ARTIST STATEMENT My artwork explores the liminal spaces and experiences of living in diaspora. I examine ideas and emotions of what home means for someone in displacement. I reflect on my family’s history of becoming refugees and then immigrating to the United States. There’s a shift that happens in this experience that has a profound imprint on our identities, memories, and narratives. To archive our history and preserve our stories and culture, I embroider old photographs that my family left behind while fleeing from war. Gradually, I’ve managed to collect these photos from all over the world. Some are collected from family friends displaced in other countries while others come from family members back in Kurdistan. Before I thread my needle, I manipulate and distort the photographs to resemble a memory. For those displaced, memories often become a home. Using these images, I portray to the viewer a sight that might not be familiar, but invite them to become a part of the narrative. I display an immigrant’s experience, one that comes from the dark consequences of imperialism and colonialism. By employing strong notions of family, I am trying to show how this is a collective experience that is often forgotten.

  • Sarah Riley

Sarah Riley Sarah Riley is a painter/printmaker based in Wellfleet, Massachusetts and Seagrove Beach, Florida. She is Prof. Emeritus and former Art Department Chairperson and Head of Printmaking at Holland College of Arts and Media in Cape Girardeau, MO. Her book on mixed-media printmaking was published in the USA in January 2012 by A & C Black, London: Practical Mixed-Media Printmaking Techniques. She studied at Virginia Commonwealth University, the Tyler School of Art-Rome campus, the Societa Dante Alighieri in Florence, Italy, and the University of Missouri, Columbia. “I use images to commemorate and to juxtapose. Life is fragmented, sometimes chaotic. Mixed-imagery, mixed-media seem in keeping; mixing techniques: printmaking, digital art, drawing, photography and paint. Subject matter comes from literature, history (especially women’s history), memory, drawings and photos. My use of anomalous shapes and textures reinforces the suggestion of memories and re-imaginings in the work. My process of experimentation with color, varying techniques and layering accentuates the re-tellings.” https://www.sarahriley.art/ BACK TO EXHIBIT Button Button Button Button

  • Sandra Horne

Sandra Horne Through my life-long journey as an artist, painting for me has been a retreat to enjoy. Of course, creativity is not a restful thing and is much like running a race. You don’t always win, but It’s very rewarding when you do. A pianist practices until they can play Chopin from memory. The obsession is not fame or fortune but the satisfaction of accomplishment. My goal was to paint classical realism and after learning to use several types of media, oil became my preference. There will always be a higher plateau to reach, a never ending need to improve and the joyful journey. https://www.sandrahornefineart.com/ BACK TO EXHIBIT Button Button Button Button
