Hello my name is Bailey Rathmann and I have a passion for art. My interest in art started when I was very young. I have always loved to paint since before I can even remember. I believe art has the capability to move people, provoke ideas, and invoke emotions in people. My art has many influences, some of which include: the environment, music, and life experiences. I create vibrant unique works of art. My works are done on a variety of mediums including canvas, upcycled clothing, vinyl records, vintage windows, and more. Through an offsite process of physical pixelation, the artist prepares wood disks of material taken from logs that are then cut into cubes and drilled to be installed on site using armatures of steel rebar embedded in the natural trunk base for the cubes to appear dissolving off its natural growth pattern. About the artist Anthony Heinz May is a sculptor from Brooklyn, NY who alters the state of living things and natural compositions with trees. Originally from Oregan, he now has public exhibits of his work throughout the country including a sculpture for the 2022 installation of the Underwater Museum of Art (UMA). Fibonacci Conchousness joins the nation’s first permanent underwater sculpture garden bringing the total number of deployed works to 34. Once they reach their new home 60 feet below on the floor of the Gulf, these sculptures become part of an artificial reef system providing habitat for over 80 species of marine life. A Florida almost-native, our family relocated to Weeki Wachee Springs when I was just four. A life-long love of Old Florida’s distinctive, raw coastal beauty was born. After two stints at the University of Florida and more than two decades in branding, graphic design and copywriting, my husband and I took the helm of a family farm and promptly started a Southwest Georgia wine business—Farmer’s Daughter—aptly named for our own. As 2020 brought great change to our world, it presented our family with a silver lining chance to take a leap. We relocated full-time to Walton County where—like countless others—we’d spent weekends and summers captivated by breathtaking beaches, colorful sunsets and an unrivaled natural canvas, brimming with wildlife and artistic inspiration. Fast-forward to present day, and as the kids learned to tie their shoes and take on other important tasks, I found a fleeting nugget of time for me again. And decided to grab it. A travel journal was begun. Quick sketches paved the way. The kids were intrigued. And so I began to rekindle a long-buried passion for drawing—squeezing it carefully into a busy schedule of homeschool and marketing/business management. My love of nature and the beauty that surrounds us—both here in SoWal and on our forays to the islands—fuels my artwork. I enjoy working with dry media, most specifically colored pencil, chalk pastel and charcoal. I simply cannot get enough flora and fauna, sandy vistas, turtles and dolphins… and every so often I wander into a bit of portraiture. < Back To Artists Page MICHAEL WEBSTER Drayton, SC BIO Michael Webster is an artist who focuses on the social organization of space through site-specific projects, sculpture, and installation. His work is context-driven and materially attuned, investigating the effects of power on social geography with a focus on long-term participatory projects rooted in the southern United States. Additionally, he has completed projects in Chicago, Ill., Moorestown, N.J., and Talca, Chile, and has participated in residencies at the Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences, Elsewhere Living Museum, and Penland School of Craft. Michael's exhibitions include 701 Center for Contemporary Art, Locust Projects, Wiregrass Museum of Art, Tiger Strikes Asteroid Greenville, and Western Carolina University. He received a Bachelor of Fine Arts from East Carolina University and a Master of Fine Arts from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago, where he participated in the GFRY interdisciplinary design studio. Currently, he is an assistant professor at Wofford College in Spartanburg, South Carlina. ARTIST STATEMENT Through projects that span sculpture, archives, and cartographic impulses, I respond to the becomings and undoings of space. Maps present the false illusion of a static world entombed by the grid, a conception of space as mathematical. Instead, my work begins with a social conception of space, where shifting territorial boundaries form strata between people. I seek moments where boundaries become permeable: a place where architecture dissolves into raw matter or the surveyor’s tools encode a digital artifact. By finding residues where systems are revealed, I question the processes of demarcation and displacement which inscribe sites of contention on the land. My practice is responsive at its core. Rather than invent new images, I recontextualize things already in circulation or develop site-specific, participatory projects. Sometimes I will live with an object for a decade before I can meet it on its own terms. This responsiveness acknowledges social and material agency outside of myself and ultimately makes my practice a symbiotic one. Other people and other things offer many insights about living in fractured geographies. Their faint echoes reverberate through every space, carrying layered histories to anyone willing to listen. I work in the amplification of echoes.
