The CAA’s Art In Public Spaces program is designed to foster collaboration, celebrate community and culture, encourage exploration, strengthen the economy, and activate the unique environment of Walton County. Art in Public Spaces The CAA’s Art in Public Spaces program integrates a wide range of public art both above and below sea level. The mission of our program is to enhance Walton County's cultural fabric locally, regionally and nationally by creating meaningful experiences and engagement, expanding public awareness and enjoyment of the Arts in everyday life, thus making Walton County a more inspiring and memorable destination. Our Art in Public Spaces activations are designed to foster collaboration, celebrate community and culture, encourage exploration, strengthen the economy, and activate the unique environment of Walton County. The internationally acclaimed program originated in 2018 with the introduction of the nation’s first Underwater Museum of Art (UMA). Since then, the program has expanded to include the Billboard Art Project, a series of murals throughout the County and most recently, The Watersound® Monarch Art Trail (MAT). Growth plans include the Highway 98 Underpass project which is currently under construction as well as an Artist Directory to shine a spotlight on artists specifically interested in Public Art projects. The directory is shared for participation in various Walton County projects, and artists may be contracted to design, fabricate, and install public art. I studied Art History and Drawing in college with a goal to pursue my passion in one form or the other. In the beginning my medium was pencil/charcoal but recently strolled into the arena of acrylic/collage. I will always be drawn to realism with that in mind I am truly enjoying the adventure. Anthony Heinz May has spent the majority of his life in the Pacific NW, exploring relationships between nature, humans and technology. As an Oregonian he seeks various natural and human-built environments as location for public installations of sculpture, to highlight human intervention in natural spaces. Material for Anthony’s artwork include dead and dying trees, insect patterns and natural cycles that foster artistic insight and inspiration for his creations. May’s art facilitates interrogation of human history where its legacy leaves nature in dire straits, continually sidelined for how humans define progress and deep technological artificiality associated with it. In his artistic puzzles, Anthony Heinz May uses a genre of art he refers to as eco-aestheticism, to support dehumanization as originating through relations humans developed with Earth and the natural world as existing solely for human exhaustion. My creative expression is my paintings. I consider myself an Intuitive abstract painter that loves layers, shapes with a lot of texture and often adds collage papers for interest.
